ANOTHER TOP TEN FINISH FOR STANCILL
John Stancill traveled to Maine for the three day PASS 400 Weekend on
September 19, 20, & 21st. Stancill drove the #20
Cushman Competition Ford during the event. Stancill
partnered with Jay Cushman for the 300 lap race and could not be happier
with Cushmans equipment and team. "My dad rented the car from Mr.
Cushman for this weekend. It's a really good car and he really
knows what he's doing. He (Jay Cushman) gave me a winning car, we
just had some bad luck in the pits." stated Stancill.
Stancill started the race in 21st after being
forced to run the conselation race. "We were fast in practice.
But we just had a bad set of tires during the heat race. I
finished 6th - just one spot from transfering to the main.
But we bought a new set of tires and used them in the consi race.
They were much better." explained Stancill. The #20 has worked his
way up to 2nd place during an unusually long green flag run. The
team did not pit for tires until a caution was thrown for rain on lap
258. Stancill was forced to race on the same tires for 258 laps.
"The car was really great. But by the time we pitted, the tires
were just gone." an exhusted Stancill explained. "I pitted really
deep - trying to be considerate to other drivers and I got boxed into my
stall. The pits are very small here and the guy in front of my
just pulled diagonally in front of me. My team had to push me back
so I could exit. Then a group of lapped cars ran into me coming
off pit road. I hit the inside wall and went a lap down. It
was just really sad that this happened to us. We had a great car
and I know we could have had a top 3 finish." Stancill finished
10th in the 300 lap race - which was cut short on lap 295 by rain.
"I enjoyed racing at Beech Ridge. It's a fun
track - small and flat - but a lot of fun. It was a pleasure to
meet and work with Jay Cushman and his team. I meet some really
nice people. They really worked hard on my car and I'm just sorry
the results were not better."
The Pro All Stars Series will race next weekend at legendary Hickory
Motor Speedway. The 15 year old rookie is hoping to bring home
another top ten finish. Stancill will reunite with Chase Pistone
for the Hickory event next weekend.
