MOTOR PROBLEMS STALL TOP-FIVE FINISH FOR STANCILL AT CORDELE
John Stancill and his fellow competitors traveled to Cordele Georgia for
the second race of the season in the PASS (Pro All Star Series) Super
Late Model Series on April 26.
After a great run at Hickory Motor Speedway, Stancill and his crew were
ready to tackle the 1/2 mile track at Watermelon Capital Speedway in
Cordle Georgia. But engine trouble and an accident would stall a top
five finish for young John Stancill.
Stancill and his crew - lead by crew chief Mark Huff from Wytheville, VA
- had not tested at the track before Saturday. The #20 team showed up
12th quickest in practice and qualified 17th for the race. Starting
deep in the field, Stancill showed patience and skill as he worked his
way through the cars. 15 year old John Stancill, son of Chris and Lori
Stancill from Ayden, NC knew that the crate motor in his Stancill Farms
Chevy would be a slight disadvantage at the track. However, Stancill had
worked his way up to 6th place before his motor started to overheat.
With only 12 laps to go, Stancill was involved in an accident and was
forced to pit to make repairs to his car. Restarting the race from the
rear of the field, Stancill managed to bring home a 9th place finish for
the #20 Stancill Farms team. "I hate that I was involved in an
accident. I feel like we could have had a top five finish again if I
had not had to go the the back of the field." said an exasperated
Stancill after the race. "I messed up my car a little and the handling
was off for the last ten laps. I just did the best I could to get a
decent finish." said Stancill.
John also brought home a wealth of knowledge that he gained during the
event. His brother, Ben -currently third in points in the Camping World
East Series - is spotting for the younger Stancill and the pair continue
to improve their communication skills with each event. Racing veteran,
Mark Huff has proved to be a valuable asset to the team as well. Young
Stancill said,"My motor was over heating and I was constantly looking at
my gages and telling my brother what was going on. We didn't know if we
should even finish the race because the motor could have blown up; but
it worked out okay for me."
The Pro All Stars Series will take a week off to prepare for race #3 at
legendary Motormile Speedway in Radford Virginia. The 15 year old
rookie is hoping to bring home another top ten finish for his team.
